Oak is a village of about 54 residents platted in April 1884 on the site of the original 1858 Oak Grove Station, an Oregon Trail-era ranch on the Little Blue River. When the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad reached a point two miles west in 1888, most of the town relocated to its current site. The Stewart Bridge near Oak is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and retired MLB outfielder Russ Snyder was born in Oak in 1934 before later settling in Nelson.
