About Brady

Brady is a village of 383 people (2020) in eastern Lincoln County, at about 2,651 feet in the Platte valley. US 30, the Lincoln Highway, divides the town, the Union Pacific runs alongside, and I-80 is two miles south. Brady has its own schools, a library, a post office and a community center that hosts the meal site and Brady Days on the first weekend of August. Jeffrey Lake, 595 acres on the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District canal, and the canyon trails of Potter’s Pasture lie south of town; Brady and Chester Island WMAs are nearby. Brady is on Central Time.

History

The Union Pacific station here was first called Brady Island, after the island in the Platte where a trapper named Brady was killed in the early 1800s. The village was laid out in 1889 and by 1890 had a post office and the Citizen State Bank. Brady grew as a farm town along the Lincoln Highway after 1913 and reached 460 people in 1940.
