Wallace W. and Libby King Waterman built this sod house about 1886 on their homestead about 9 miles north of Big Springs on Day Road, at the southern edge of the settlement of Day, which had a post office from 1890 to 1903, a store, a church and a school. The walls are two feet of sod; about 1925 the house was coated in concrete and given a gable roof, and a small outbuilding served as Day's cream station. The family lived here until 1989 and gave the house to the Deuel County Historical Society in 1993. It is the only building left from Day and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. A marker about it stands in Eiker Park in Big Springs. View from the road.
