Description

After the Battle of Massacre Canyon on August 5, 1873, a homesteader found a badly wounded Pawnee woman whose child had been killed, and settlers at Indianola cared for her until she died. She was buried near Coon Creek and, in 1975, reburied in the city park with Pawnee representatives present. A History Nebraska marker stands at the grave.
