The Nebraska Prairie Museum, 2701 Burlington St. (US 183), a mile north of Holdrege, is run by the Phelps County Historical Society. Its World War II Interpretive Center has a scale model of Camp Atlanta; other halls hold farm machinery, a military exhibit and an 1890s town square, and the grounds have a farmhouse, a one-room school, a Lutheran church, a windmill and a POW guard tower. It is home to the National Sod House Society, and a marker for Holdrege silt loam, the Nebraska state soil, stands here. Open Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and weekends 1 to 5; free.
