The 100th Meridian marker stands at US 30 and North Meridian Avenue in Cozad, beside the old Union Pacific depot and a restored caboose. Union Pacific track crews reached the 100th meridian on October 5, 1866, and on October 26 the railroad ran an excursion of about 250 guests here, the first passenger train west of the Missouri. A signboard read “100th Meridian, 247 Miles from Omaha.” The stone monument was placed in 1933 by the Cozad chapter of the DAR; History Nebraska marker No. 17 tells the story. The meridian itself lies just west of town.
