About Rogers

Rogers is a village of 82 on US 30 and the Union Pacific main line in southeastern Colfax County, about 8 miles east of Schuyler and 7 miles west of North Bend. Shell Creek runs past the village to the Platte.

History

A Rogers post office opened on July 31, 1883, and the village was platted in 1886 as a Union Pacific shipping point; it was named for a Mr. Rogers, a railroad official. The post office closed for good in 1988. The population peaked at 162 in 1960. About 6 miles north, Irish settlers built St. Patrick's Church at Dublin in 1884; its Donovan post office ran from 1898 to 1899, and the church closed after 1940.

A levee break on June 26, 2018, flooded fields around Rogers, and on March 13–14, 2019, a breach in the Shell Creek levee brought a flash flood emergency for Rogers and Schuyler. Baseball pitcher Fred Wigington was born here.
