History
Deweese was platted in 1885 when the Burlington & Missouri River built through, and named for James W. Deweese, an attorney for the railroad. Czech settlers from Bohemia and Moravia took up farms around it. In 1890 it had about 70 people, and it peaked at 156 in 1930. Half a mile northeast, on the north bank of the Little Blue, stood Liberty Farm, a mail and stage station by 1859 that served the Pony Express in 1860–61 and was burned in 1864.
