Brownson Nebraska

Brownson is an unincorporated community about seven miles west of Sidney, once a flag station on the Sidney and Lowe Railroad and named for a Union Pacific general freight agent.

The community's post office opened in 1887 under the spelling "Bronson" before being officially corrected to "Brownson" in 1895. By the early 2000s it had faded to a near-ghost town with only a handful of residents, though a few structures — including an old brick schoolhouse — survived into the mid-2000s. Brownson sits near the site of the World War II-era Sioux Ordnance Depot, once connected by a 352-foot bridge built in 1942.
