About Obert
Obert is a village of 22 on the stretch where NE 12 and NE 15 run together in the far northeast corner of Cedar County, near the Dixon County line. It has Obert Park Campground, Faith Lutheran Church and a cemetery; the Brooky Bottom river access is about 7 miles north.
History
Obert was established in 1907 when the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway was extended through, and named for a railroad official. It was first called Oberton; the post office name was shortened to Obert on November 6, 1909, to avoid confusion with Overton, Nebraska.
The population peaked at 116 in 1920. St. Francis Catholic Church served the village from 1914 to 1951, and the Lutheran congregation, first called Our Saviors, is now Faith Lutheran. Obert uses the Newcastle ZIP code, 68757.
