About Hubbell

Hubbell is a village of 63 on the Kansas line in southeastern Thayer County, just south of NE 8 and about 6 miles east of Chester. The Sixth Principal Meridian initial point is about 7 miles east.

History

The Lincoln Land Company laid out Hubbell in August 1880 on the farm of H. H. Johnson (Andreas spells it Johnston), for whom it was named, as the Burlington's Republican Valley line arrived. Within two years it had more than 300 people, three limestone quarries at the townsite, a bank and a graded school. The population peaked at 375 in 1900, and in 1917 the town had two banks and a hotel.

Country singer Lucas Hoge grew up in Hubbell.
