History

Rockville was platted in 1886 when the Union Pacific extended its Loup City branch, and was named for Rock Creek, whose bed is full of limestone. In 1890 it was a station of about 100 people with Methodist Episcopal and Congregational churches. The early 1900s brought the Rockville State Bank and a town band, organized in 1912 and for years the only band in Sherman County. The village reached 241 people in 1930. A tornado damaged the east edge of town in April 2024.
