Creston is a village of 181 people (2020) in northeastern Platte County, at 1,624 feet, a quarter mile south of NE 91 by a short spur. Humphrey is about 6½ miles west-southwest, Leigh about 6 miles east and Columbus about 19 miles south. Creston is served by Lakeview Community Schools. Creston is on Central Time.

History

Creston was laid out in 1886 when the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad reached the site, and was built up mostly by Germans; it was incorporated in 1890. Its name comes from its high elevation. The population peaked at 381 in 1920. The Creston Ridge wind farms, about 2½ miles south-southwest, began producing power for the Loup Power District in 2015 and 2017.
