Cornlea is a village of 33 people (2020) in northern Platte County, at 1,723 feet, 1.3 miles south of NE 91 by a short spur; Humphrey is about 4 miles east. Its mail comes through Humphrey (68642). The village office and the Back 40 Bar and Grill are on Elm Street.

History

Cornlea began in 1886 as a siding on the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad and was built up mostly by German Catholics. Its name means “land of corn.” The post office ran from 1887 to 1989, and the village was incorporated in 1902. The population peaked at 105 in 1930.
