About Howe
Howe is an unincorporated community in Nemaha County, about 4.8 miles south-southeast of Auburn, whose ZIP code (68305) it uses.
History
A. T. D. Hughes platted the town as Bedford on January 20, 1882, as the Missouri Pacific built through Bedford precinct, but the station and post office were named Howe for Church Howe, a large landowner, railroad man and politician whose influence brought the line this way. In 1882 it had a general store and about twenty people; in the early 1900s it had a bank, a hotel, stores, two elevators and stockyards. The post office closed in 1962.
