About Ringgold

Ringgold is an unincorporated rural community on NE 92 in eastern McPherson County, at about 3,176 feet, about 10 miles east-southeast of Tryon and 15 miles west of Stapleton. It gives its name to one of the county’s three voting precincts. Mail now comes through Tryon.

History

Settlers who had come from Ringgold (also spelled Ringold) in Dawson County named the place for their old home. The post office opened on December 1, 1906, with Lois Stienbeck as first postmaster, and from 1920 it ran the only rural mail route in McPherson County; it closed on August 11, 1967, and its records went to Tryon. Ringgold counted about 15 people in 1990, when a rural grade school still operated nearby. Ringgold precinct was formed in 1956 by joining Lemley and Hall precincts.
