About Pickrell
Pickrell is a village of 186 in central Gage County, on spur S-34D just east of US 77, about 7.5 miles north of Beatrice. The Homestead Trail runs through town on the old railroad grade.
History
The Union Pacific built through in 1883–84. William Pickrell and Mr. Watson owned the land, and the Pickrell brothers laid out lots in 1884, on the hillside because the railroad ran on the level; Joseph Chandler became postmaster on February 1, 1884, with the office in the grain elevator. Edward Austin's mill had stood nearby in earlier days. The village was incorporated on August 14, 1913, and its population was highest, 201, in 1990.
