About Upland

Upland is a village of 125 in north-central Franklin County, reached by the S-31A spur 2½ miles east of NE 10, about 16 miles north of Franklin and 13 miles south of Minden.

History

Upland grew up as a station on the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad's DeWitt–Holdrege branch, built across the north of the county in 1886, and took its name from its high ground. In 1890 it had about 200 people, the Upland House hotel, a general store, a hardware store and a station agent. The village incorporated in 1894 and reached its largest population, 433, in 1920. The railroad is gone.
