Seward has celebrated the Fourth of July on its courthouse square since 1868 and is Nebraska’s Official Fourth of July City (1973) and America’s Official Fourth of July City – Small Town USA (1979). The 2026 celebration, July 3–4, was Nebraska’s official America 250 event, with a grand parade, fireworks, runs, a car show and more; it usually draws about 40,000 people.
