The Garfield County Frontier Fairgrounds on the south side of Burwell, off NE 91, have been home to Nebraska’s Big Rodeo since 1922. The 40-acre district, listed on the National Register in 1985, has 13 historic buildings and 7 structures, including wooden covered grandstands, barns and a three-quarter-mile track; storms in 2022 and 2025 destroyed the oldest grandstands, since rebuilt. Nebraska’s Big Rodeo, begun in 1921 and inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2022, is a PRCA rodeo held in late July (July 22–25 in 2026, with PRCA Xtreme Bulls on the opening night), run by the Garfield County Frontier Fair Association. The Garfield County Fair is held the same week.
