About Cedar Creek
Cedar Creek is a village of 465 in northern Cass County, on the BNSF line about 4.6 miles northeast of Louisville; the S-13H spur (114th St.) leads north to it from NE 66. Five private lakes north of the tracks give it the motto "The Land of Lakes," and about half the village's area is water.
History
In 1861 Swiss immigrant John Inhelder bought 520 acres here and set aside 40 for "Inhelder Station." He and George and Isaac Sayles platted the town in 1865, and the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad built through on its Plattsmouth–Lincoln line in 1870. The name comes from the creek, for the cedars on its banks; the post office took it in 1872. Christian Schluntz's grist mill was valued at $15,000 in 1882, and First Security Bank opened in 1917.
The village school closed in the 1960s, and students ride to Louisville. In 1969 the five-lake area north of the tracks joined the village, and in 1983 the Census Bureau ranked Cedar Creek third in Nebraska by median income. The 2020 count of 465 is its highest. The old Burlington station of Cullom, about 4 miles east, gave its name to the Cullom limestone.
