Alvo, Nebraska
Alvo is a village in Cass County, Nebraska, with a population of 115 at the 2020 census. It was platted around 1892 after the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad built a depot in the area, and grew as a small rail-served farm town in the county’s northwestern corner.
History
Alvo is said to take its name from the first child born in the settlement after the railroad depot was established. By 1916, a local business directory listed roughly two dozen enterprises, including a bank, general stores, a hardware dealer, blacksmiths, a hotel, grain dealers, and its own newspaper, the Alvo Advance. Alvo is sometimes noted as the only community in the United States bearing that name.
