Bellwood is a village in Savannah Township, Butler County, Nebraska, located along Nebraska Highway 64 in the eastern part of the state. With a population of approximately 407 (2020), Bellwood is a small farming community serving the surrounding agricultural area of eastern Butler County.
History
Bellwood was established in 1890 when the railroad was extended to that point. The village was named after its founder, Jesse D. Bell. Like many Nebraska villages built around rail service, Bellwood grew into a small trade center for the surrounding farms, supporting local businesses, a school, and grain-handling facilities through the 20th century.

Bellwood sits at approximately 41.342°N, 97.240°W, at an elevation of 1,447 feet. Nebraska Highway 64 runs through the village, extending east toward David City and west toward Columbus via U.S. Highway 81. NE-64 has a separate, disconnected eastern segment running from near Fremont into Omaha — the two segments do not directly connect. The village covers a total area of about 0.24 square miles.

The village is home to Bellwood Elementary School, while area high school students attend David City High School, about eleven miles away. Bellwood retains its identity as a quiet farming community amid the fields of eastern Butler County.
