About Raven
Raven is a former post office in south-central Brown County, about 19 miles south of Ainsworth, in Sandhills ranch country. The USGS Raven map sheets show Jones Lake, Hagan Lake and the upper Calamus River nearby. Nothing of a town is reported here today; the Raven Cemetery keeps the name.
History
The Raven post office opened in 1906, during the Kinkaid homestead years when 640-acre claims brought settlers into the Sandhills, and closed in 1922. The origin of the name has not been found.
